Born on January 15, 1996, Tyshun Raequan “Deebo” Samuel Sr. plays wide receiver for the National Football League (NFL) San Francisco 49ers in American football. The 49ers selected him in the second round of the 2019 NFL draft while he was a college football player for the South Carolina Gamecocks. He was chosen for the Pro Bowl and named to the first team of the All-Pro team in 2021.

Samuel played high school football under Mark Hodge’s coaching at Chapman High School in Inman, South Carolina.[1] He guided his club to the AAA playoff semifinals as a senior.[2] Samuel ran 133 times for 898 yards and 13 touchdowns during his career; he had 166 receptions for 2,751 yards and 36 touchdowns. He concluded his career with a record 94 tackles, 12 interceptions, and 53 touchdowns.[3] He participated in the Carolina Shrine Bowl and was named the Class AAA Offensive Player of the Year by the High School Sports Report.[3] The 247 aggregate evaluated Samuel as a three-star prospect.[4] He pledged to play college football at the University of South Carolina.

Samuel had five receptions for 83 yards and two touchdowns in the season’s first game against NC State. He also returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown.[11] Samuel once again returned a kickoff for a touchdown in Week 2’s game against Missouri. He also finished with five receptions for 45 yards and two touchdowns running the ball.[12] On the opening play from scrimmage in Week 3’s matchup with Kentucky, Samuel hauled in a 68-yard touchdown throw from Gamecock quarterback Jake Bentley. Samuel would not even play three complete games this season due to an injury that ended his season, but he still managed to gather 250 yards receiving for three touchdowns, two carries for thirty yards and a touchdown, and two kickoff returns.

With 2:27 remaining in the third quarter of Week 3’s matchup with Kentucky, Samuel successfully received a pass from Jake Bentley but was awkwardly tackled by Kentucky’s Derrick Baity Jr., twisting his leg back.[14] Head coach Will Muschamp revealed during the game that Samuel would miss the remainder of the season due to a broken right fibula.[15][16] Although Samuel was injured, it was stated that he could be able to play again later in the season. However, while recovering, he sprained his foot and was unable to play again.
