Teller chose Virginia Tech over at least sixteen other Football Bowl Subdivision colleges to play football after high school.[1] Following his final year as a Hokie, Teller was selected to both the first team of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and the ACC Jacobs Blocking Trophy runner-up.He received an invitation to the 2018 Senior Bowl as well.

The Buffalo Bills selected Teller with the 166th overall pick in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL draft.[7] The choice that was used to choose Teller was previously obtained by the Bills in a transaction that sent Marcell Dareus to the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was a backup guard when he started his rookie campaign, but in Week 10, he was appointed the starting left guard and played in the final seven games.

Teller was dealt to the Cleveland Browns for 2020 fifth- and sixth-round picks on August 29, 2019, along with a 2021 seventh-round pick.[8] Teller gained a position in the starting lineup in Week 9 and went on to start the remainder of the season after spending the first half of his rookie campaign in Cleveland as a reserve.[9] Teller was cited by NFL.com writer Nick Shook as an MVP contender going into the fifth week of the 2020 NFL season because of the effectiveness of Cleveland’s running game, which is primarily led by him and offensive tackle Jack Conklin.[10] The team put Teller on the COVID-19 reserve/list on December 8, 2020[11], and on December 13 it was activated.[12] Teller and three of his teammates were selected to the 2020 All-Pro Team.
