£12m Eddie Howe favourite on the verge of Newcastle exit after approaches made last week

Newcastle United could potentially cash in on a couple of Eddie Howe’s favourite players this summer as part of a squad refresh…

Callum Wilson has been on the chopping block all summer, but now that it has come out that he’s to undergo a procedure on a back problem, that likely rules him out of a summer move – well played, Eddie.

Another ageing favourite that the club could potentially move on this summer is Kieran Trippier.

Trippier was Eddie Howe’s first signing as Newcastle boss and he helped to galvanise the team and led the group to Premier League safety, even when injured he was on the sidelines with his crutches offering support.

Trippier’s leadership is often more valuable than his performances

That aspect of Trippier’s time at Newcastle will never be forgotten, however, it’s fair to say that last season he seemed far from the player we all fell in love with.

Trippier was part of England’s Euro 2024 squad and started every game but the final and while he wasn’t horrendous, he wasn’t great either as personal problems seemed to cast a huge shadow over his mood.

With the Euros now out of the way, Football Insider are reporting that several clubs have made enquiries about the £12million man’s availability.

Tino Livramento is ready to step in

Again, it’s Football Insider citing sources with no quotes, so get the salt out, but it’s hardly a new revelation that Trippier’s future is up for debate.

We’re torn on the idea as his leadership is invaluable and will be difficult to replace, but on the pitch, he’s just not the player he was and Tino Livramento has shown that he’s ready to step up.

If we can get a few million for him, then it makes sense to do so. Clubs in Saudi Arabia are showing interest and Tripps may be keen to go now to escape from whatever it is that’s going on at home.
