American college football wide receiver Horace “Bru” McCoy III was born on June 22, 2000. He plays wide receiver for the Tennessee Volunteers football team and attends the University of Tennessee. He played for the USC Trojans while a student at the University of Southern California (USC).

When Horace McCoy III was eight months old, his grandmother gave him the nickname “Bruiser,” which he eventually abbreviated to “Bru.”[1][2] Horace II, his father, played collegiate football, while Shelby, his mother, played volleyball at Northern Illinois University.[3] He is the brother of Ava and Alexa.

McCoy attended Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California, rather than Palos Verdes High School, believing that this would increase his prospects of playing collegiate football, even though the McCoy family resides in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.[4] He was a wide receiver and linebacker for the Mater Dei football team.[1] He got five sacks as a linebacker and 77 receptions for 1,428 yards and eighteen touchdowns as a receiver in his senior year.[5] He was selected National Football Player of the Year by MaxPreps.[6] In addition to winning the U.S. Army Player of the Year Award, he was selected for the All-American Bowl.

McCoy said in May 2022 that he would be joining the Tennessee Volunteers football team at the University of Tennessee.[18] McCoy had 52 receptions for 667 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns during the 2022 campaign. During the Volunteers’ 11–2 season, he crossed the 100-yard mark in three different games.
