American football coach Sherrone Banfield Moore (first name /ʃər.ˈoʊn/, born February 3, 1986) is the head coach at the University of Michigan. During Michigan’s 2023 campaign, which culminated in a national title, he was the team’s acting head coach for four games. In 2024, Moore took over as head coach from Jim Harbaugh.
From 2006 to 2007, Moore was an offensive lineman for the University of Oklahoma’s collegiate football team. He was Central Michigan’s and Louisville’s assistant in the past.
Derby, Kansas, was the place of Sherrone Banfield Moore’s[1] birth on February 3, 1986. In 2004, he earned his diploma from Derby High School.[2][3] Before moving to Oklahoma in 2006, he played junior college football for Butler Community College for two seasons. Moore played offensive guard in 14 games while attending Oklahoma.
Under head coach Steve Kragthorpe, Moore joined the Louisville staff in 2009 as a graduate assistant. He remained in that capacity under Charlie Strong, the next head coach, until 2011. He was brought on as a full-time assistant in 2012 and served as the tight ends coach through the 2013 campaign.[5]
As a graduate assistant, Moore completed his master’s in sports administration.
Moore was appointed as the University of Michigan’s new tight ends coach on January 15, 2018.[7] On January 25, 2021, it was revealed that Moore, who had coached tight ends for the previous three seasons, will take on the role of offensive line coach for the Wolverines, along with the additional title of co-offensive coordinator.[8] The Michigan offensive line, led by Moore, was recognized as the nation’s top offensive line in 2021 and 2022 and took home the Joe Moore Award. Since the award’s establishment in 2015, this is the first time a school has won it in two consecutive seasons.
