Njoku’s parents moved to the United States from Nigeria, and they had nine children total.[1] In Cedar Grove, New Jersey, he went to Cedar Grove High School. He collected 76 receptions for 1,794 yards and 19 touchdowns in his career. Njoku, a three-star tight end prospect, turned down offers from Temple, Boston College, and Ohio State to play collegiate football at Miami (FL). Njoku participated in high school competitions in the high jump as well, taking home the national title in the New Balance Nationals Outdoor during his last year in 2014.
Njoku played in all 13 games with four starts in 2015 after redshirting his first year at Miami in 2014. He finished the season with 21 receptions for 362 yards and one score.[6] He caught 43 passes for 698 yards and eight touchdowns in 2016.[7] Following the season, Njoku made the decision to join the 2017 NFL draft instead of using his final two years of eligibility.
Njoku accepted an invitation to participate in the NFL Combine and finished all positional drills. He also went to Miami’s Pro Day and decided to run the 40-yard dash, 20-yard dash, 10-yard dash, broad jump, and vertical jump once again. Njoku was predicted by experts and pundits to be picked in the first round of the NFL Draft. Sports Illustrated rated him as the third-best tight end available in the draft, while ESPN, NFL analyst Mike Mayock, and NFL analyst Bucky Brooks listed him as the second-best tight end.
