Colson was born in Haiti’s Mirebalais. When he was seven years old, his father passed away, and his uncle placed him in an orphanage in Port-au-Prince. He first met American Steve and Melanie Colson when he was eight years old. Following the 2010 earthquake, they were on a church trip in Haiti. He was adopted by the Colsons, and in May 2012, at the age of nine, he moved to Tennessee following a protracted adoption and immigration process.[1][2][3] He remembered that the first thing he saw when he arrived at the airport in the United States was a Michigan cap. All of my family members, who are ardent supporters of Michigan, were dressed like that.
Colson just picked up English after relocating to Tennessee; he was raised speaking Haitian Creole. In addition, he played soccer as a child and started playing American football, starting as linebacker for Ravenwood High School in Brentwood, TN. Colson, who is regarded as a four-star recruit by the 247Sports Composite Rankings, was ranked as the No. 2 talent in Tennessee and the No. 10 linebacker in the country in 2021. Despite recruiting offers from LSU, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Oregon, and Tennessee, he chose to play collegiate football at Michigan.
At the Michigan football camp, Colson met Jim Harbaugh, the coach of the Michigan Wolverines, and received an opportunity to play football on a scholarship. In 2021, he enrolled at Michigan. As a true freshman, he started seven games for the 2021 Wolverines, totaling 61 tackles, which was fourth most on the team. He was chosen as a freshman All-American.
Colson led the 2022 Wolverines in tackles as a sophomore (2022).[7] He was chosen for the All-Big Ten team as a third-team linebacker by the media and as a second-team linebacker by the league coaches at the end of the season.Colson led the 2023 Wolverines in tackles as a junior (71).[9] The coaches and media selected Colson as an All-Big Ten second-team linebacker.[10] He was also a Lott Impact winner.
